Fort McMurray Public Schools provides inclusive programming and offers a wide range of supports for students with diverse learning needs. To honour the unique and changing needs of our students, we recognize the importance of ensuring supports are available to provide the most equitable learning environment. School-Based Supports
Learning Assistance Centre (LAC) Teacher
Each school employs a Learning Assistance Centre (LAC) teacher who focuses on curriculum, staff capacity building and collaboration around students to support the learning of students with diverse learning needs. The LAC is the key person on the school learning team to assist with all elements leading to furthering inclusive opportunities for all students in the school. The LAC will work directly with district personnel, counsellors, Child and Family Services and Alberta Health Services to facilitate quality programming and wraparound services for students.
School Counsellors
The role of the counsellor is to provide comprehensive support in the areas of educational, personal and/or career counselling for students. The school counsellor is a member of the school team. School counselors across the District provide both individual and group interventions that focus on identifying core problem areas and supporting classroom learning.
Family School Liaison Workers
Fort McMurray Public Schools FSLW’s serve children, youth and young adults within their home, school, and community. The goal of our FSLW is to support the wellness of students and their families so they can succeed in school.
Wood Buffalo Regional Collaborative Services Delivery (WBRCSD)
The WBRCSD is a regional collaborative services delivery team developed to more effectively meet the learning needs and well-being of children and youth. All children and youth who are registered students will have access to services that support their learning needs in an inclusive school environment. The type of service will vary depending on the needs of the individual. There will be two types of service providers:
